Friday, March 23rd

This is to let parents know that we will be having another quiz on times tables on Tuesday.  This time it will be on the 0-5 tables.  Students were given a times table chart to study.  We will continue to have these quizzes during the multiplication unit.  Students are expected to practice their times tables and to get to know them fluently.
For example:  When asked what is 5x6, a student should reply 30 right after.

Homework:
There is no homework, however students are encouraged to practice on a continuous basis their times tables.  Four ways to practice:
-the links on my blog
-Prodigy
-Mathletics
-Memorize

Reminder:
Geometry tests will be going home on Tuesday

Have a good weekend!

March 21st, 2018

Yesterday, we started our unit on multiplication.  We looked closely at the concept of multiplication and the strategies we can use to remember our times tables.

It is important to note that students knowing their times tables will help them to become good problem solvers as they continue their learning journey in grade 5, 6, and beyond.  In grade 4, it is a primary focus and a good time to get to know them!

On Thursday, we will be having our first times table quiz.  I sent home a times table chart and students were asked yesterday to begin studying for tomorrow's quiz.  It will be on 0-4, therefore they need to study the first four tables at the top.

Homework:
-study times tables (get to know them!)

-Optional:  Mathletics and Math Prodigy practice will have some multiplication practice provided.

Reminder:
Friday is gum day.  Any donation for Ryan's Well will be appreciated!

March 8th, 2018

We wrapped up our unit on geometry today with a final test.  It was nice to see how many students came prepared and put their best effort forward!  There were a few absent today.  Therefore, I will wait until after the March break until the tests will go home to be signed.

Our next unit will be on multiplication.  I am encouraging students to begin practicing their times tables.  Knowing their times tables up to 9 will be a big part of the number sense grade in math this term.

Students can practice by:
-using the links under multiplication on my blog
-practice in Mathletics (through the OCSB portal at home)
-practice on Prodigy (I will put some multiplication practice in there)

Reminder:
-Tomorrow is Creativity day!
